I want to begin by saying that I don't typically drink espresso as I find it too strong and bitter. That being said, The Skinny Chef and I went to Bar Pasticceria Tessieri after Chef Cesare Casella recommended it and I must admit they serve a phenomenal espresso. Located inside the walls of Lucca, Tessieri is a quaint bar and pasticceria that is beautifully decorated and staffed by warm and welcoming baristas. Although we didn't try any pastries during our first visit, we are eager to return for another espresso paired with something sweet!
We went for the shakerato, but didn't know exactly what to expect. What we learned was that a shakerato starts with a bold, fresh brewed espresso, which is then poured into a metal shaker filled with an ample amount of ice and a teaspoon of sugar. After being vigorously shaken by the barista, this cold and refreshing pick me up is poured into a tall glass you can't wait to sip, but you must be patient and let the foam settle before enjoying this icy beverage. The shakerato is a must try at Bar Moka!
